About St. Philip
At St. Philip Lutheran Church, we believe faith is a journey best taken together. Whether you're carrying deep questions, quiet hopes, or a longing to connect, you're welcome to walk with us.
Guided by our mission to rejoice in God’s grace to invite, worship, nurture, and serve, we are a community grounded in the core values of extravagant welcome, engaging worship, life-long faith formation, caring community, compassionate service, and generous giving.
You don’t have to have it all figured out. Here, there’s room to grow in your relationship with Jesus, to use your gifts in meaningful ways, and to find encouragement for the road ahead.

What Is A Lutheran?
Lutherans are Christians who trust in Jesus Christ as Savior. Following Jesus’ command, we worship, pray, baptize, and receive his gift in Holy Communion. Our faith is summarized in the historic Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds. Lutherans teach that a person is saved by the grace of God through faith in Christ. That faith is expressed in acts of service to others in His name.
Part of a Larger Network of Lutheran Churches
St. Philip Lutheran Church is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The ELCA is a community of faith that shares a passion for making positive changes in the world. Our faith is built around a strong belief in God as made known to us in Jesus Christ. Through worship, service and education, we practice our faith, grow our relationship with God and experience God’s grace in our lives. We also work hard to put our faith into action. In today’s complex world, we strive to make a difference in practical, realistic ways.
In addition to the national church body, the ELCA is divided into 65 synods. St. Philip is part of the North Carolina Synod. For more information on the ministry of the North Carolina Synod, including its work with agencies such as Agape+Kure Beach Ministries, Lutheran Services for the Aging and Lenoir-Rhyne University, go to www.nclutheran.org.
Welcoming All People
We welcome all to receive God’s love and grace. We welcome all because God welcomes all, regardless of race or culture, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or relationship status. We welcome all without regard to addictions, physical or mental health, legal status, political perspectives, socio-economic circumstances, or anything that too often divides us. Our unity is in Christ.
We have been a Reconciling in Christ (RIC) congregation since November of 2019. The Reconciling Works website has many resources to learn more about this important ministry of welcome.
