Outreach with Families Together
We partner with Families Together to help families transition from homelessness to stable homes. Throughout the year, our faith community engages in meaningful ways that make a real difference in the lives of children and adults. If any of the following opportunities interest you, please contact Kai to learn more.
Annual Spring Fundraising Campaign Support: (April-May)
Each spring, we join Families Together in their mission to help families move from homelessness to stable housing. It costs about $10,000 to support one family through this process, and our goal is to raise enough each year to help house 8–11 families. Together, we can make this life-giving work possible.
Emergency Home Pantry Collections: (Ongoing + As Needed)
Throughout the year, we support Families Together by collecting essential household items for families moving into homes after experiencing homelessness. Donations like cleaning supplies, paper goods, bedding, and kitchen basics help make a fresh start possible.
We also support their ongoing list of evergreen needs—including laundry detergent, towels, sheets, pillows, cookware, and non-perishable snacks—that are always welcome. Every contribution makes a difference in helping families feel truly at home.
Annual School Supply Collection (July)
Each year, we partner with Families Together and Refugee Hope Partners to collect school supplies for the children in their programs. These donations ensure kids in our community are equipped for a strong and positive start to the school year.
Holiday Smiles Program (November/December)
Each Christmas, we partner with Families Together to ensure children in their program receive gifts through the Holiday Smiles initiative—similar to an Angel Tree. Our congregation sponsors about 20–25 children each year, providing around $75 in gifts per child based on a suggested list from Families Together.
Tidy Team (Ongoing + As Needed)
Our Families Together Tidy Team helps prepare apartments for families transitioning out of emergency housing. By cleaning and freshening up each space, we make sure it’s ready for the next family to begin their journey toward stability.
Meal Ministry Support (Ongoing)
Support families in shelter and housing programs by providing a warm meal during Monthly Workshops. These gatherings offer adults guidance from the Housing & Family Services Team while children enjoy enriching activities, and sharing a meal helps foster connection and support.
Volunteers prepare and serve meals for about 20 people, including entrée, dessert, beverages, and paper goods. Homemade or restaurant-prepared meals are welcome. Volunteers are encouraged—but not required—to stay and engage with families after dinner. Workshops take place on the third Thursday of each month at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church.
